Baldrige Integrated Criteria Response Templates
(Business, Public Sector and Other Nonprofit Version - Health Care and Education Versions also available)
About 20 years ago, clients started asking for a set of templates that would enable them to accurately capture the information required to effectively respond to the Baldrige Criteria questions. The Criteria were much simpler then and MS Word templates that answered many of the key questions soon became popular in the United States and eventually throughout the world. However, other consultants began to copy this approach. In order to maintain a competitive advantage, it became necessary to include hyperlinks to align and integrate the information in each template with that in all the other templates, to the Criteria, the Baldrige Glossary, Core Values, and Best Process Excellence Models. Surprisingly, no competitor has to this day added the integration dimension to a meaningful extent. I am amazed because integration is core to the design of the Baldrige Criteria and all other major forms of excellence criteria (e.g., EFQM). A quote from Rudyard Kipling comes to mind:
"They copied all they could follow but they couldn't copy my mind, and I left'em sweating and stealing and a year and half behind."
In a continuing spirit of breakthrough improvement, the 2010 templates have added several new exciting features for 2010 including:
Organization templates which are not used in a Baldrige application but which serve to back up for the ones that do get inserted and which are also are useful during a site visit.
A list at the bottom of each Response Template of each term in the template that is also in the Baldrige Glossary. Each term in the list is hyperlinked to its definition to prevent misunderstanding and to ensure that you are using the same definition that the Examiners use when they assess you.
Instructions for each template serve to facilitate and optimize their use.

Benefits include:
Cost: At $295.00, you can get better results than you can get from the best Baldrige consultant for less than you pay them for one hour.
Real-Time: All teams writing the application have real-time access to the latest information. This saves an immense amount of rework and helps ensure that conflicting information is not used. For example, different Category teams could be using different core competencies. I think anyone who has written an application can relate to how this can happen.
Cost: the time your teams spend capturing, analyzing, organizing, and presenting application information is reduced dramatically.
Total Integration: Integration is the only assessment scoring dimension common to all seven Baldrige Categories. It is often the lowest scoring area. It can lead to long hours for teams trying to write an application that illustrates integration across all areas of the application.
Focus: The templates are designed to extract the right information from your subject matter experts so they do not waste their time on what they think should go in the application but which may often not be adding value.
Guided Tours: Most templates include examples illustrating how to complete them correctly.
Refinement: Years of user feedback ensures calibration to user needs
Successful:
Dozens of national Baldrige Award recipients have used the templates as well as many more state winners.
Multiple winners of almost every major international quality/excellence award have use the templates.
More importantly, thousands of organizations that have never applied for an award have used the templates to help in achieving excellence.
Possible Side Effects:
Someone higher up than you may have already hired a Baldrige consultant or purchased other tools that require days, weeks or months to do what the templates enable you to do better in less time. Using the templates could prove embarrassing for them and unpleasant for you. Hopefully, you are not in this type of situation.
